Product information
Initially, we were skeptical when we were offered these extremely affordable Japanese planes. Can there be reasonable quality at this price? We had some of the small bench planes from this product line tested by carpenters – all of them praised the quality of the iron. It is easy to sharpen and holds its edge very well. The wooden block is somewhat rustic and requires some finishing work. The irons are forged from two layers of steel.
These handy small planes, affordable and well-made, help with many specialized tasks where other tools no longer suffice. A great addition to your other Japanese tools!
For many delicate tasks, small hand planes are indispensable. Japanese hand planes are not ready to use and require some adjustments from the user, particularly some finishing work on the plane’s mouth.
A detailed guide can be found in Toshio Odate’s book: Japanese Woodworking Tools: Their Tradition, Spirit, and Use.
Small bench plane with double iron. This plane is roughly the size of a one-handed plane, as we know it. It can be used as a one-handed plane, but it can also be held with both hands like a larger plane.
