For over 100 years, LIOGIER has been producing particularly high-quality hand-cut rasps in the Auvergne region of France. At times, it was one of the largest manufacturers in Europe for these tools, yet it remained virtually unknown outside of France.
Floats are single-cut rasps with a flat working surface and are used for smoothing difficult areas that are otherwise hard to reach with a plane. They were originally made for working on wooden plane bodies but are also used wherever the surface needs to be precise and not rounded, such as with wooden tenons. These floats can be resharpened with a triangular needle file. Each type is available in push cut and pull cut versions. Floats are only cut on one side, meaning the other side is smooth!
Push cut version means: The float cuts in the motion direction away from the body.
Pull cut version means: The float cuts in the motion direction towards the body.
