Pliers

Pliers are among the oldest tools known to mankind. The very first ones were probably used to hold workpieces in the fire. Today, the variety is overwhelming. Our goal is to offer woodworkers the most important ones they need in their daily professional life.

Pliers consist of handles, a joint, and plier jaws. In technical terms, the joint is often referred to as the „pivot.” The plier’s effectiveness is based on the lever principle. The hand force applied to the (long) handles is transferred to the workpiece via the (short) plier jaws and is thereby amplified.

Basically, two designs are distinguished in pliers:
1. The plier handles are placed on top of each other and connected with a pivot bolt. This is referred to as „lap joint.” This design is common and, when using high-quality individual parts and careful production, practical with a very good price-performance ratio.
2. One handle of the plier is guided through an opening in the other handle. This is referred to as „slip joint.” These pliers still have a good guide even when the pivot bolt is slightly worn.
