TORYO HOMARE Blade 65 mm round Head White Oak Body - Blue Steel No. 1 NAKANO
Available, delivery time: 2-3 days
Product information
This smoothing plane with a white oak body and hand-forged iron is crafted by Master Takeo Nakano in Yoita (Niigata Province).
„TORYO HOMARE” means: "The Honor of the Master Carpenter."
The substrate for the hard Aogami steel (Blue Steel No. 1) is „Nama-ji” and is sourced from old iron bridge connectors from the 19th century. Inclusions in this iron make it easier to sharpen the very hard Aogami steel. The iron has a rounded back.
Master Nakano has spent his entire life as a blacksmith. Necessary temperature charts for forging don’t interest him; he works only from experience and intuition. According to him, the temperature during the forging process is also heavily dependent on the weather. He prefers to temper the irons at night because he can see the tempering colors better then. This plane has the traditional cutting angle of 40° typical for Japanese planes.
