Product information
At first, we were skeptical when we were offered these extremely affordable Japanese planes. Can there be reasonable quality at this price? We had some of the small bench planes from this product line tested by carpenters – all spoke very highly of the quality of the iron. It is easy to sharpen and holds its edge very well. The wooden block is somewhat rustic and requires some finishing. The irons are forged from two layers of steel.
These handy little planes, both affordable and well-made, assist with many specialized tasks where other tools may not suffice. They are a great addition to your other Japanese tools!
For many delicate tasks, small hand planes are indispensable. Japanese hand planes are not ready for use and require some adjustments by the user, particularly the mouth of the plane needs to be refined.
A detailed guide can be found in the book by Toshio Odate: "Japanese Woodworking Tools: Their Tradition, Spirit, and Use!"
This plane is a small rabbet plane.
