Initially, we were skeptical when these extremely affordable Japanese planes were offered to us. Can there be reasonable quality for this price? We had some of the small bench planes from this product line tested by carpenters – all spoke very highly of the quality of the iron. It is easy to sharpen and holds its sharpness very well. The wooden block is somewhat rustic and requires some refinishing. The irons are forged from two layers of steel.
These handy small planes, in affordable and good craftsmanship, assist in many specialized tasks where you can no longer proceed with other tools. A good addition to your other Japanese tools!
For many delicate tasks, small hand planes are indispensable. Japanese hand planes are not ready to use and require some adjustments from the user, particularly some refinishing at the mouth of the plane.
