For those who want to work stylishly with their Veritas miniature tools at a 1:3 scale, this replica of the Veritas front vise, albeit without a quick adjustment mechanism, comes highly recommended. It is also generally suitable for work on more delicate pieces where the clamping force and capacity of standard front vises are not needed, and/or such a vise, as in model building, might simply be overkill.
We recommend installation in a table or workbench, unless a miniature workbench is to be crafted. Serious work can only be done on such a bench if it is made immovable, for example, by clamping it to a suitable base.
As expected from the Canadian manufacturer, the choice of materials, craftsmanship, and functional design are all convincing. Specifically, it consists of an aluminum block that houses the steel spindle and guide rods. The front plate is also made of aluminum. The massive T-piece made of steel accommodates the wooden vise key with plastic end caps.
The front vise features a built-in stop function at maximum clamping capacity. This effectively prevents the extended part of the front vise from falling out.
The maximum clamping capacity is 78 mm, considering the minimum thickness of the wooden jaw to be crafted is 19 mm; choosing a thicker material will reduce this capacity.
Included are mounting screws and a detailed guide for crafting a wooden jaw. The informative illustrations make up for the fact that the description is only available in English and French.
