For anyone who enjoys crafting rustic furniture or furniture made from wildwood, this robust aluminum tenon cutter from Veritas cuts clean round tenons with a rounded shoulder. See the image on the left! These tenon cutters are designed to operate with a drill without vibrations. You can also use the smaller tenon cutters in this series (5/8 inch to 1 inch) with a hand brace, for which we offer an adapter. A built-in spirit level allows you to maintain a precise horizontal position while cutting.
For your safety, the iron is designed so that its back does not extend beyond the rotating aluminum body. This aluminum body has a recess that serves as a sharpening guide and to which the iron can be attached for sharpening. For more details, refer to the user manual. The iron can be finely adjusted to achieve good results with both dry and green wood.
This tenon cutter is available in 8 diameters. The sizes 5/8 inch to 1 inch cut 2-3/4 inch (just under 70 mm) long tenons and are mainly used for rustic furniture. The sizes 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch cut 4-1/4 inch (just under 108 mm) long tenons and are mainly used for bed frames, fence posts, and rustic carpentry work. The sizes 5/8 inch to 1 inch have an 8 mm hex shank, which fits drills with a chuck up to 10 mm, while the sizes 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch have an 11 mm hex shank, requiring a drill with a 13 mm chuck.
Further recommendation: Rustic wildwood joints made with the standard tenon cutter from Veritas fit much better and the joint appears more solid if the corresponding borehole is chamfered with the Veritas chamfering tool.
