Product information
This side rabbet plane with an interchangeable blade is used with a brace with a 4-jaw chuck. This side rabbet plane is particularly useful for tapering a through hole, for example, when wooden dowels are split and secured with a wedge, as in chair making.
Existing boreholes with diameters from 11 mm to just under 30 mm can be cleaned out or tapered. The cast body of this plane has an angle of 12.8°, making it a perfect match for the Veritas tapered tenon cutters, which have the same angle of 12.8° when used as dowel pointers. As a result, tapered tenons can be fitted into corresponding tapered boreholes. Rustic greenwood joints made with the standard Veritas tenon cutter fit significantly better and the joint appears tighter when the corresponding borehole is reamed with this side rabbet plane.
The angle of the blade can be adjusted slightly if necessary by loosening the screws and retightening them in the desired position. The tapered square shank only allows for use in a hand brace. A replacement blade is available, but you can also sharpen the supplied blade.
