Precisely fitting round tenon joints can be easily created with this system of tenon cutter and matching countersink. They are suitable for both round logs and rectangularly cut wood. The cutters produce a straight round tenon with a 60° shoulder that fits precisely into the tenon hole made with the matching drill bit and countersink. The main cutter cuts the tenon and shoulder, while the auxiliary cutter trims the round tenon to exact size. The auxiliary cutter can be finely adjusted, allowing for the highest degree of precision.
The cutting capacity of all tenon cutters is 1-1/2 inches (38 mm) larger than the tenon itself. Keep this in mind when considering the diameter of the starting material. Sizes 5/8 inch to 1 inch cut 2-inch (50.8 mm) long tenons, not including the shoulder. They have an 8 mm hex shank, which fits into drill chucks up to 10 mm. Sizes 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch cut 3-inch (76 mm) long tenons, also not including the sloped shoulder. The latter have an 11 mm hex shank, which fits into drill chucks up to 13 mm. All sizes can be used with a drill, and the smaller group can also be used with a hand drill and appropriate adapter.
You can achieve matching round 60° chamfers with Veritas countersinks. Two sizes are offered, each with 4 interchangeable bushings: The smaller countersink has bushings for 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, and 1-inch tenons, while the larger one is for 1-1/4, 1-1/2, 1-3/4, and 2-inch tenons.
