The time-tested design of sharpening guides that clamp the iron from the side is well-known to most woodworkers. This new honing guide from VERITAS is a modern take that improves upon previous constructions while consistently maintaining the flexibility of this type of sharpening guide. Both chisels and plane irons with widths between 3mm (1/8") and 63.5mm (2 1/2") are securely clamped to allow precise sharpening. The unique 3-point clamping also holds more specialized irons (e.g., from rebate or shoulder planes).
The sharpening guide has two different positions (a higher and a lower one) allowing most types of irons and chisel lengths to be held in a balanced and ergonomic manner. Most woodworkers will find a suitable position for themselves and can additionally make a setting gauge for their own position.
Its simplicity makes the sharpening guide the first choice for many woodworkers to quickly and consistently sharpen. Together with self-made setting gauges, this sharpening guide will become a flexible option for sharpening chisels and plane irons in most workshops.
