The entire surface of this honing plate is ground flat with a maximum deviation of 0.1 mm (0.005 inch), making it ideal for use with diamond honing paste. The plate is made from dimensionally stable low-carbon steel and remains flat for a lifetime under normal use. Unlike sharpening stones, it does not need to be regularly re-flattened.
The manufacturing process creates a consistent pattern on the surface of the plate, giving it a very light texture without affecting its flatness. This surface texture helps the diamond particles adhere to the plate. The diamond particles are harder than the steel and embed themselves into it during use. This results in a stable and fast-cutting surface. If you use a separate block for each grit of diamond particles, you can use progressively finer grits for honing without the risk of cross-contamination (which would cause scratches on the tool surface).
For easier use and storage, you can adhere the blocks to a plate. The blocks are similar in size to standard water stones. They measure 203 mm x 76 mm x 9.5 mm (8 × 3 × 3/8 inch) and weigh approximately 1130 g (2-1/2 lb).
