Diamond Sharpening Plate
ATOMA ECONOMY Grit 600 Grinding Surface 210 x 75 mm
Product information
The term „Economy” in these grinding plates may initially cause confusion, as one might assume that the best materials were not used. However, that is not the case. The term „Economy” refers to the manufacturing process. Originally, thick aluminum or steel plates were coated with diamonds, making the material expensive and the handling cumbersome. The manufacturer Tsuboman in Japan has transitioned to coating 1 mm thick stainless steel plates with diamonds and attaching them to a 10 mm thick, precision-ground aluminum plate using double-sided adhesive tape. This method is more economical in production, and when worn, only the thin steel plate needs to be replaced. As a result, the stone weighs only about 600 g in total, whereas solid steel would weigh 1 kg, resulting in significant weight savings. The flatness is also remarkable with this manufacturing method. We placed several plates with the diamond coating facing down on a certified granite measuring plate. A feeler gauge with a 0.04 mm diameter did not fit underneath. We do not guarantee this level of flatness, as that would be excessive, but we can assure an above-average high level of flatness.
