These self-adhesive finishing and lapping sheets are made from a uniformly aluminum oxide-coated, waterproof, and tough polyester film with a thickness of 125 µm (1/8 mm). The backing is slurry-coated with aluminum oxide grains. With this lapping film, a high-gloss polish can be achieved. Besides tools, many materials—metals, plastic, rubber, wood—can be effectively sanded with it. Application is possible with oil, water, or dry, but we recommend wet application for longer durability and finer surfaces. Originally, this lapping film was developed for industrial use, where consistent grain size and uniform coating within tight tolerances are crucial, as grinding and sharpening results in industrial production must be precisely repeatable.
This Alox Lapping Film is excellently suited for honing hand tools up to a hardness of 60 HRC, after they have been pre-sanded with the Alox Finishing Film grain 20μ or grain 15μ accordingly. The sheets can be cut with scissors as desired and adhered to any suitable smooth surface such as plexiglass, glass, stone, or wood.
