Box-Maker’s Plow Plane Right-Hand
VERITAS

Product information

A compact rabbet plane with dimensions smaller than the small rabbet plane from Veritas. It is perfectly suited for cutting grooves up to 9.5 mm (3/8") wide (with a corresponding, separately purchasable iron) and deep, as typically found in smaller drawer and box bottoms, as well as for creating moldings and narrow rabbets. The processing of the latter is possible due to a recess in the wooden cheek near the iron.

The plane body is shaped in such a way that despite its small size, it fits surprisingly well in the hand. In the main body, which is only about 146 mm long and made of ductile cast iron, the iron with a 35° bevel angle is bedded at an angle of 45°, made from lapped A2 tool steel. It is 6.35 mm (¼") wide and can be replaced with any other Veritas plane iron up to a width of 9.5 mm (3/8").

To have better guidance on larger workpieces, the factory-mounted wooden fence (127 mm long) can be replaced with a self-made, longer version. The metal fence is guided parallel to the main body by two massive steel rods.

Using the included 1/8" hex key, the locking screws of the fence can be loosened to adjust the fence from flush to a maximum distance of 63.5 mm (2 1/2") (when using the supplied 6.35 mm, 1/4" iron).

The depth stop, secured with a brass screw, sets the depth of the groove or rabbet (maximum 9.5 mm = 3/8" deep). Rounded edges prevent the risk of scratches on the workpiece.
