Product information
The crafting of boxes and model building often involves the use of smaller parts, which, for safety reasons, should not be run through an electric planer and are difficult to dress with a hand plane. Aligning planes on workpieces that are much smaller than the plane sole can indeed prove challenging. With this jointing accessory for the medium and large rabbet planes from Veritas, you manually guide the workpiece to the plane and are rewarded with better control over chip removal.
The low-friction fence made of HDPE plastic measures 254 × 51 mm and facilitates aligning the workpiece at a right angle to the blade. The alignment of the plane for right or left-hand use is achieved via various mounting holes, with the plane secured through the through-hole with a brass knob.
The large lower part of the plate provides sufficient space for either horizontal attachment on a workbench or vertical clamping in a front vise—an arrangement with the blade facing up, once preferred by coopers for precisely jointing barrel staves.
A recess with a built-in rare-earth magnet has space for a spare blade, perhaps with a larger bevel angle, to work on wood with a strong grain. A safe and precise method for jointing small parts.
