To our knowledge, this is the only truly good, comfortably adjustable one-handed wooden plane. As such, white beech is used here. Also known as hornbeam, it is particularly suitable for plane soles or bodies due to its high density, hardness, and toughness.
The plane’s excellent maneuverability is partly due to the side grip recesses and the indentation on the top in combination with the large head of the adjustment screw. Ergonomically shaped, it provides a welcome support for the palm.
The shaving thickness is adjusted by simply turning the adjustment screw to the right or left. The uniform iron adjustment over the entire cutting length is just as simple: grasp the iron at the end, below the knob, between thumb and forefinger and move it sideways.
The steep bedding angle of the iron, mounted with the bevel down, effectively counteracts fiber tear-out.
In its typical form, it has been „the” faithful companion of professional carpenters and joiners on-site for decades. Due to its compact dimensions and light weight, it is always with you, and its range of applications is very diverse.
