The innovative design of this tool – moving away from single-handed to two-handed operation – significantly improves handling, which is essential for achieving the desired burr on a scraper. Like a spokeshave, the small yoke fits well in the hand and is held between the thumb and forefinger, with the fingertips close to the carbide rod. The improved tactile feedback supports the correct application of force and angle positioning when drawing the burr along the scraper (which is usually clamped in a vise for this purpose).
The relatively small dimensions of the burnishing tool prevent excessive pressure on the scraper, thereby avoiding undue stress on the steel edge.
Although designed for two-handed operation, the burnishing tool can also be operated single-handedly. An injection-molded part that fits into any work apron pocket encases the rod, which has a diameter of 4.8 mm and is 25 mm wide.
