With this plane, you can tackle larger rabbet work effortlessly. Weighing 2.7 kg (6 lb), with a mouth that spans the full width of the sole and a length of 385 mm (15-1/8 inch) - similar to a short jointer – this plane is ideal for tasks requiring long and wide cuts, such as large rabbets and beveled panels, which are difficult to produce with smaller rabbet or shoulder planes. The long plane sole and its substantial weight aid in precise work, as the plane is less likely to follow small hills and dents compared to smaller models. The front piece, which is 120 mm (4-3/4 inch) long, also provides a stable starting point on the workpiece.

When you set the 4.8 mm (3/16 inch) thick iron (bevel up) flush with both sides of the 57 mm (2-1/4 inch) wide plane body, you can make clean cuts with both sides of the plane. The bed angle of 15° combined with the bevel angle of 25° results in a cutting angle of 40°. Scoring cutters on both sides of the plane notch the wood, helping to prevent tear-out even when working across the grain.

The scoring cutters, which are adjustable in depth and width, can be completely retracted when working with the grain or to prevent the outer scoring cutter from marking the workpiece. The side fence, attached with brass knurled screws to two steel rods, is 187 mm (7-3/8 inch) long and can be set at a maximum distance of up to 133 mm (5-14 inch) from the side of the plane body. It has holes for attaching auxiliary wooden fences. The rear handle can be tilted to either side and locked in place to ensure sufficient clearance between your hand and the workpiece.

The plane body is precisely crafted from stress-free, ductile cast iron. The sole is flat and square to the sides. The adjustable mouth can be closed to a narrow slit for taking the finest shavings with minimal tear-out or opened wide for coarser work. A Norris-style mechanism allows for easy and precise adjustment of the iron’s depth and lateral setting. Limit screws on both sides of the iron prevent it from shifting during use while still allowing for lateral adjustment. The included iron is finely ground.
