The smallest Veritas shoulder plane fits comfortably in the hand and is designed for convenient one-handed use. This is an ideal plane for trimming tenons, smoothing grooves, and fitting rabbets. The handle overlaps the blade adjustment, ensuring it never conflicts with the leading hand. A large round hole in the center of the plane body serves as an additional grip point for the fingers, allowing for better control. The plane weighs 510 g, is 159 mm long, and 12.7 mm wide. The plane body, made of ductile cast iron, is very precisely manufactured. The sole and sides are at right angles to each other.
The angle of the low-angle plane bed is 15°, and together with the blade, which has a 25° bevel, results in a cutting angle of 40°. This cutting angle is excellent for planing end grain. Adjustment screws on the sides allow for precise blade alignment, eliminating the need for lateral adjustment. The lapped blade is made of A2 steel, 3.2 mm thick and 12.7 mm wide.
The front section of the plane body is adjustable, allowing the mouth of the plane to be set very tight for the finest shaving.
A shoulder plane is the ideal tool for refining wood joints to ensure they fit precisely.
