Waterstones based on corundum with a tendency towards a somewhat softer texture, particularly evident with the finer grits. The surface can be easily dressed with appropriate measures.
The stones provide good feedback. Slurry quickly forms and in a short amount of time, the surface color changes from “white” to “black.” This reflects the significant material removal. Suitable for all steels. Even PM-V11 might lose its “fear factor” for some users. A smooth grinding feel without being scratchy.
To prevent distortion of the stones, they are equipped with a tempered glass plate. The grit designation is on the back of the stones, secured by the glass plate. In terms of water requirement, these are “Splash-and-Go” stones. This means long pre-soaking is not necessary; usually, it suffices to moisten the surface at the start of work, followed by a modest additional application. We advise against long soaking sessions, as this can lead to the formation of hairline cracks similar to those found in NANIWA Professional/Chocera stones. However, due to the glass base, the stone breaking apart is not a concern. In further use, this is merely a cosmetic issue and should not affect sharpening results. Store dry in any case!
For a complete setup in the sharpening and honing area, not all 5 stones are necessarily required; even with 3 of them, one can be very well equipped.
