Pliers

Pliers are among the oldest tools of humanity. The very first ones were probably used to hold workpieces in the fire. Today, the variety is overwhelming. Our goal is to offer woodworkers the most important ones they need in their daily professional life.

Pliers consist of handles, a joint, and plier jaws. The joint is often referred to as the „rivet” in technical jargon. The plier’s effect is based on the lever principle. The manual force applied to the (long) handles is transferred to the workpiece through the (short) plier jaws and is thereby amplified.

Basically, two designs are distinguished for pliers:
1. The plier handles are laid on top of each other and connected with a joint bolt. This is referred to as „lap joint”. This design is the usual one and with the use of high-quality individual parts and careful production, it is practical with a very good price-performance ratio.
2. One handle of the pliers is guided through an opening in the other handle. This is called a „slip joint”. These pliers still have good guidance even if the joint bolt is somewhat worn.
