Western Chisels

Typical of Western chisels is the combination of a relatively thick, sturdy blade and a usually ergonomically shaped handle made of wood or plastic. This design allows for precise hand work as well as powerful blows with a wooden mallet, club hammer, or soft-faced hammer without damaging the tools. Chisels with handles that have a ferrule at the end are particularly suitable for work with a hammer or club hammer.

Western chisels come in different variants, each designed for specific tasks: narrow chisels for fine mortising or cutting slots and tenons, wide chisels for removing larger areas, and short, handy models for detail work. Due to their versatility, Western chisels are suitable for both rough wood joints and precise fine work.
