Western Chisels

Typical of Western chisels is the combination of a comparatively thick, sturdy blade and a usually ergonomically shaped handle made of wood or plastic. This design allows for precise handwork as well as powerful blows with a wooden mallet, club, or soft-faced hammer without damaging the tools. Chisels with handles that have a ferrule at the end are particularly suitable for working with a hammer or mallet.

Western chisels come in different variants, each designed for specific tasks: narrow chisels for fine mortising or slot and tenon work, wide chisels for removing larger areas, as well as short, handy models for detail work. Due to their versatility, Western chisels are suitable for both rough wood joints and precise fine work.
