This set of isi sharp chisels is a solid basic equipment for any woodworker. The blade made of carbon steel (T10) is hardened to 61 – 63 HRC. Interestingly, the same steel was used as in our Juuma planes. The handles made of oak are without a ferrule, so that the chisels can be more comfortably guided by hand or struck with the palm. Even without a ferrule, the oak handles can withstand light to medium blows with a wooden mallet. The handles are colorless matte lacquered and slightly flattened on two sides to prevent rolling away.
The back of the isi sharp chisel is designed as a flat surface in the part closest to the cutting edge up to a length of approximately 70 mm. The innovative feature is that the remaining surface, up to the tang, is recessed by 0.5 to 0.6 mm. This clearly defines the surface to be sharpened on all four sides and reduces it to the length of a Japanese chisel. This also applies here: the result is a permanently flat back. This invention was invented by Friedrich Kollenrott and is registered as a utility model with the German Patent Office.
