Product information
These radius planes are essentially small profile planes. They cut a curve with a fixed radius on an edge.
The Veritas radius planes have a blade at each end with different radii. One cuts radii of 1.6 mm (1/16 inch) and 3.2 mm (1/8 inch), while the other cuts 4.8 mm (3/16 inch) and 6.35 mm (1/4 inch). They are ground so that they have two fixed stops that prevent them from cutting deeper than the radius. The radius planes are manufactured in England from tool steel. They are hardened to HRC 48-52 and have a very durable cutting edge.
They are easy to handle and cut in both directions. Material is removed quickly and easily. They take on the work of four planes and are therefore very economical. Additionally, they avoid the dust, noise, and setup times that occur when performing the same tasks with a router.
The radius planes are precisely ground and ready for honing. The delivery includes a set of patterns to help sharpen the four cutting radii and the 12.7 mm (1/2 inch) radius on the inside. A piece of silicon carbide sandpaper and a wedge to clamp it complete the sharpening set.
The delivery includes two radius planes and the sharpening set.
