Mikawa Natural Nagura Stone

Mikawa Nagurastein

These natural Nagura Stones are used to create a honing paste on the surface of natural waterstones in order to refine the grit structure and give the stone a better bite on the edge being sharpened. A very light rubbing is enough - the honing paste should not be too thick. Nagura stones are usable on all sharpening stones from medium to fine grits. They work on artificial stones as well as they do on natural stones.

Tsushima Natural Nagura Stone

Tsushima Nagura Stone

This dark grey to black natural Nagura Stone from an underwater mine on the island Tsushima is used to create a honing paste on the surface of natural waterstones in order to refine the grit structure and give the stone a better bite on the edge being sharpened. A very light rubbing is enough - the honing paste should not be too thick. The Tsushima Nagura - harder than the Mikawa - is usable on all sharpening stones from medium to fine grits, specially for harder stones. It works on artificial stones as well as it does on natural stones. This Tsushima Nagura is sealed with lacquer on five sides - only the side that rubs on the stone surface is open.
