This carpenter’s square is used to quickly and accurately scribe lines or transfer measurements. The stop always rests against the workpiece with a sufficiently large surface area, eliminating the need to flip the square. This also simplifies working in two directions simultaneously and reduces the likelihood of errors when measuring and scribing two dimensions at once.
The tongue is made of stainless steel, is 77 mm (3 inches) wide, and 152 mm (6 inches) long. It is ground on all four edges. The metric version features a 100 mm long scale on both long sides and a 70 mm scale on one short side.
The scales are matte, making them easier to read as they glare less and simultaneously allow you to make markings with a pencil. The diamond-shaped hole in the tongue holds a pencil tip in position to scribe lines parallel to an edge.
The locking mechanism works with a grooved pin, similar to those used in combination squares. The tongue rests against a hardened and polished steel guide pin, which is embedded in the body of the stop.
The tongues can also be purchased separately.
