MHG Chisel

MHG chisels with side bevels ground down to the chisel face

MHG chisels with oiled round ash handles with flats and the short series with oiled ash handles are now also available with a new cutting edge design allowing you to work cleanly right into the corners even in deep recesses. This result is achieved by grinding the side bevels right down to the chisel face.

Note: In order to avoid a true sharp edge along the side, a few tenths of a millimetre are left untouched along the straight sides. This is in the interest of operating safety, seeing the chisels are intended to cut only with the front edge and not the sides.

Like other series, this series is also produced by a new forging process, resulting in tools with high edge retention, elasticity and a long service life. The high degree of microstructure compaction and the quality heat treatment of the high-alloy steel results in performance characteristics that previously could only be found in hand-forged tools. The hardness over the whole working length is 61 HRC (+/- 1).

MHG chisels with oiled handle, round with flats, and side bevels ground down to the chisel face

Once again MHG shows its innovative ability with this standard size series and oiled round handle with flats. The finish of these chisels is very good. They are polished and then the chisel face is once more ground flat. You profit from this in two ways: your fingers won’t catch on any real edges when handling the tools and thanks to the additional grinding process the tool face is perfectly flat.
The hardness is 61 HRC (+/- 1) over the entire working length.
Handle diameter 38 mm
Total length 245 to 295 mm depending on tool width

Short MHG chisels with oiled handle, round, and side bevels ground down to the chisel face - with striking ferrule

The blade is polished after which the chisel face is ground flat. The chisel is a pleasure to hold. Regardless of the size of their hands, users have only praise for the handle shape. These chisels are relatively short, but too long to be classed as butt chisels. In length they resemble Japanese chisels that are known to support highly accurate and sensitive chiselling because your working hand is so much closer to the workpiece. From our point of view these are fully-fledged chisels provided the recess depth does not exceed 70 mm.

The total length amounts to just 205 mm, the ground face of the chisel is approx. 70 mm long. The handle diameter at its widest part is 38 mm. Wood is a natural product so the colour and wood grain of individual handles may differ.

Short MHG chisels with oiled ash handle, round with flats, and side bevels ground down to the chisel face - without striking ferrule

Design and sizes as above, but without striking ferrule and with round ash handle with flats. Chisels without a striking ferrule are particularly suited for more delicate work, where you strike or press the rounded handle with the ball of your hand. This handle will also tolerate light blows with a wooden mallet.

The total length amounts to just 205 mm, the ground face of the chisel is approx. 70 mm long. The handle diameter at its widest part is 38 mm. Wood is a natural product so the colour and wood grain of individual handles can differ.
