One variant of clamps that you can produce with the help of two spindles is the „Moxon Vice”. This bench-top vise is based on a historical model. J. Moxon describes it in his 1703 book „Mechanick Exercises”. It is a mobile, wide front vise that is moved with the help of two spindles (similar to the Veritas twin-screw vise. However, the two spindles are not connected to each other and are significantly smaller) and is mounted on the workbench as needed. It sits considerably higher than the permanently installed front vise and allows you to clamp wider workpieces vertically. Due to its greater height, it is ideally suited for creating dovetail joints or performing other detailed work. Additionally, the movable jaw of this vise can be angled with the help of the two spindles, allowing you to easily clamp workpieces with non-parallel surfaces.
The HiVise is a smaller version of the leg vise by Benchcrafted. It is particularly suitable for detailed work – since the workpiece is at waist height, where you can work on it more controlled and precisely – and for mobile use.
