Product information
As the name of these chisels already suggests, these tools do not have the length of the widely used standard-length chisels but are significantly shorter. Notably, the blades are shorter. However, because the handles are also more compact, they may not always be the first choice for users with large hands.
The advantage of the short design can be utilized wherever spatial conditions are tight, and handling with usual lengths is difficult. This can be the case for reworking in stair construction, small drawers, or fitting fittings. They can also serve well in model making or even in sculpture.
In terms of length, these chisels are in the mid-range of similar tools, offering a balanced compromise between compactness and user-friendliness. The rounded handle ends invite you to operate them by hand for fine work, but they can also withstand blows with a wooden mallet.
Apart from better accessibility in tight spots, these chisels are recommended if you appreciate guiding the tool close to the workpiece with your hand. If these short chisels seem too limited in application as the sole chisels (e.g., no deep mortises possible), they are at least a welcome addition. They are advantageous not only for small workpieces but also when space is limited in the toolbox or tool belt on the go.
One might argue that shorter blades don’t have as much „meat” for resharpening as standard versions. But, let’s be honest: even with professional use, such a chisel will last a craftsman a lifetime, otherwise, it can endure for generations.
When material selection, craftsmanship, design, and ultimately functionality merge into a convincing symbiosis, it becomes clear that the „RICHTER” series once again proves its absolute cost-effectiveness.
On the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the company NAREX, a new tool generation was created, named after the founder, Vaclav Richter. Following the great international success of the RICHTER chisels in standard size, it is only logical for the manufacturer to expand the series to other product groups and set further interesting accents.
Here too, the steel is carefully forged from chrome-vanadium steel in a traditional manner and treated at low temperatures („CRYO”) to achieve a hardness of 62 HRC.
The subsequent fine grinding culminates in a polish that gives the tool an appropriate surface. The side bevels extend almost to the back, allowing good access to tight work areas.
The back is already well flat-ground at the factory, requiring only comparatively little effort to achieve a perfectly flat back.
The bevel is ground to 25° and is more suitable for fine work and softwood with this angle. If a blunter angle is required, as in hardwood or if the chisel is struck harder with a mallet, this can be achieved by grinding a secondary bevel (micro-bevel) without much effort.
You can approach the personal optimum in small steps. The flatter the angle, the less resistance when chiseling, the steeper the angle, the more robust the edge (less risk of chipping or the edge „folding”).
Originating from Czech impact, the handle is made of ash, a wood type perfectly suitable for this purpose due to its hardness, toughness, and beautiful grain. The handle is ergonomically shaped, finely sanded, and polished. A stainless steel ferrule prevents the handle from splitting and a leather washer at the transition between the grip and the blade absorbs hammer blows.
Delivered in an appealing, color-contrasting wooden box.
