A legend among pocket knives is the Rybička from the Czech Republic, which translates to „little fish”. The first knife in the shape of a fish was created more than a hundred years ago. The design, with its easily recognizable eyes, scales, fins, and gills, has remained unchanged since then, whereas the quality has been significantly improved.
The original wooden handle scales have been replaced with metal handles. The current versions are cast from a zinc alloy. The coloring of the handles may vary slightly due to the zinc chromate surface treatment used.
The carbon steel blade has been replaced with a more maintenance-friendly one made from high-quality stainless steel. In a deft „clip-point” shape, also known as „Bowie” or „duckbill” form, it impresses with a sharpness that even allows for shaving hairs from the back of the hand!
Due to its simplicity, small size, and appealing design, the „Rybička” is traditionally one of the most popular folding knives that Czechs of all ages take with them on their Sunday mushroom hunts in the forest. It is also suitable for carving, as a keychain, or letter opener. Due to its discreet dimensions and its pleasant-to-touch surface, it also feels comfortable in a wallet. This classic is as much a part of the Czech Republic as Czech beer!
