Product information
The blacksmith Yuji Amano learned the trade of knife-making in his twenties from his teacher Keiichiro Tsutsui, who was a master blacksmith in Tosa on the island of Shikoku and primarily produced forestry tools. Yuji Amano became independent with his own workshop and now forges razors and other tools. He is part of the younger generation of Japanese blacksmiths and continues the existing tradition of blacksmithing, which is always at risk due to a lack of newcomers in a highly modern country like Japan. He sells his razors under the brand TAKAMI, consisting of a Kanji character that represents a letter of his name (天) and the Kanji character for water (水), because his knives are quenched with water during forging.
The blade of this beautifully crafted Kamisori is made from White Paper Steel No. 1, forge-welded with soft iron. The blade itself is high-gloss polished, and the handle has a black, forge-finished surface. The edge should be honed with a Japanese water stone with a grain size of 8000 before first use. Additionally, a finer stone, e.g., grit 12000, can also be used.
