Product information
The Veritas Low Angle Jack is an unusually versatile plane. It performs better than most others when end-grain planing, working with the shooting board, and can also be used as a large smoothing plane.
The included blade has a bevel angle of 25°.
An optional blade with a steep angle of 38° is available, allowing it to be used like a regular bench plane. With an optionally available blade with 50°, working with difficult wood with varying grain is simplified.
In terms of size, it is built like a classic 62-1/2 plane: large and wide, nicely heavy, with a low center of gravity and a plane mouth pulled far back. This plane is 381 mm (15 in.) long and weighs approximately 2700 g (6 lb). You will come to appreciate this plane with its front section making up one-third of the total sole length. Before the cutting edge touches the wood, the sole is already securely on the workpiece. You will notice the difference best when you switch back to a plane with a short front section.
The blade is 57 mm (2-1/4 in.) wide and 4.8 mm (3/16 in. = 0.187 in.) thick, and the bed angle of the plane is 12°. The A2 blade is hardened to Rc60-62.
