Before the era of machine planers, the first step on a rough-sawn board was carried out with a scrub plane. On old furniture from the pre-industrial era, you can still see the traces of the rounded scrub plane iron on the backs and undersides.
Its usefulness today is often underestimated: the high and fast chip removal allows for quick reworking of warped boards and slats, and a rustic effect on surfaces is achieved in a much more interesting way than with a texture brush – without dust and noise. Although the sole is straight, the iron is rounded. The scrub plane has a total length of 240 mm and an iron width of 33 mm! The cutting angle is 45°. The plane body is made of beech wood. It usually comes with a single iron, as the cleanliness of the surface is not the main focus here.
