Product information
This spokeshave, also known as a „schinder,” is modeled after the historic Stanley No. 151 F, where the F stands for „FLAT.” Versatile in use, it proves its worth in situations requiring fine shavings on flat and convex curved shapes (outer radii) such as arches, boats, paddles, chair building, or chamfering edges. It refines the preliminary work, whether done by sawing or with a drawknife or hatchet.
The iron adjustment can be finely tuned using adjustment screws. This not only ensures a simple parallel setting of the blade in relation to the mouth of the plane, resulting in consistent shaving, but also ensures that the iron remains firmly in place and does not accidentally slide back if the clamping screw is not tightened enough.
Solid cap, incomparable to flimsy versions made of thin metal! At one end of the handle, there is a practical, large opening for hanging and space-saving storage when the plane is not in use. Silk matte black, lightly textured surface, with a surface quality typical of such cast parts, making it pleasant to grip. Looks almost noble, incomparable to versions with thick, glossy paint, possibly even in shock colors!
Good utility quality!
The plane can be used both for pulling and pushing, with the work becoming even easier if the sole is reworked with a finer abrasive medium.
As with other planing tasks, a slight twisting of the tool generally ensures an easier and cleaner cut. Here, the tool is guided not with the blade aligned at a right angle to the direction of movement, but rather deviating from it, slightly angled.
Pulling:
While the three outer fingers find their place on the hollow back of the handles, the index fingers can apply pressure at the transition from the top to the back on suitably shaped areas, while the thumbs rest on or next to the cap. Alternatively, the index fingers can also grip the handles next to the cap.
Pushing:
Similar to pulling. Here, the thumbs can improve guidance and apply additional pressure on the surfaces next to the iron.
