Oire Nomi S.H.S.S. 21mm Japanese Chisel
Product information
For a long time, no chisels were made from HSS steel at all because it wasn’t fine-grained enough to achieve truly sharp edges—until a relatively fine-grained version was developed. You can get the HSS steel of these chisels very sharp, but the much more outstanding feature is the robustness of these chisels. With carbon steel, small parts of the cutting edge break off relatively quickly if mistreated, which does not happen here. You can really get down to business with them without having to be particularly careful. The sharpening effort is somewhat higher than with carbon steel.
These Japanese chisels made from a particularly fine-grained HSS steel are considered to be the most robust chisels ever—for tough use in the workshop or on the construction site. Absolute top chisels even for tropical hardwoods! One customer wrote: „Goes into eucalyptus without any respect! Holds its sharpness incredibly long and is completely insensitive!” For particularly hard use, the bevel angle can be increased from 30° to 35° by grinding a second bevel. The ferrule does not need to be worked on like traditional chisels. It is already deep-set from the factory with the wood mushroomed over it.
