Product information
The blacksmith Yasushi Hanyo continues the brand KOSHIMITSU after Mr. Matsumura, who had supplied us for over 20 years, retired. Yasushi Hanyo works practically in the neighborhood, in Yoita, Niigata Province. Yasushi Hanyo is a very experienced blacksmith and produces chisels of the highest quality and fineness. The chisels are hand-forged from White Paper Steel, an exceptionally fine-grained carbon steel, which allows you to achieve an extreme sharpness when sharpening and honing, comparable to only a few other steels.
The chisel is slightly cranked towards the handle. The advantage is that you can chisel deeper with precision than the length of the chisel suggests. However, the prerequisite is flat mirror edges even in the area of the transition to the shaft.
The steel ring over the red oak handle is hammered down so that the end of the handle protrudes about 1 – 2 mm beyond the ring, ensuring that the hammer only strikes wood when hitting.
These nomi are hand-forged and hand-ground, so there may be slight variations in width and length. Like all Japanese chisels, they must be sharpened and honed before first use.
Handle diameter ranges from 19 mm for the 3 mm wide chisel to 25 mm for the 42 mm wide chisel. The back side is equipped with a simple hollow grind in all sizes.
