Product information
With this tool, you can create narrow grooves with great precision and cut narrow strips from a piece of veneer. It is handled similarly to a marking gauge. The blades can be quickly changed when your work requires it.
The hook-shaped blade is designed for creating grooves. It is used in a pendulum motion, forwards and backwards. One side has scoring cutters that incise the wood at both edges of the groove, and the other side has a cutter that removes the material in between. This results in a very clean, nearly tear-out-free groove.
You can produce veneer strips of consistent width by cutting in both directions with the one-sided sharp-pointed blade. The blades can be set to a distance of up to 82 mm (3-1/4 inch) from the brass fence. (If you use the additional 254 mm (10 inch) long extension rods, distances of up to 235 mm (9-1/4 inch) are possible.) The two pins protruding from the fence can be used to pivot the blade into the workpiece at the start of the cut. They also serve as stops to limit the depth of the groove. (You can remove the pins to install a wooden auxiliary fence with a matching radius if you are working on pieces with curved edges.)
The basic unit consists of the cutting head, the fence, and two blades: a 0.81 mm (0.032 inch) wide grooving blade and a strip cutting blade. You can purchase an additional cutting head (without blades) separately, allowing you to quickly switch from grooving to strip cutting, or from one groove width to another. The compass tip and pencil holder can be purchased separately, see further down on this page.
Grooving blades with widths of 0.64 mm (0.025 inch) and 1.02 mm (0.04 inch), as well as 254 mm (10 inch) long extension rods are also available separately. All blades are made of spring steel, hardened to HRC 45-50, and feature two sharp ends each. When one side becomes dull, you can simply turn the blades around.
An excellent tool system for scoring, cutting, and fitting inlay bands.
