Accu-Burr
JR1 Burnisher BLACKBURN

Product information

For ages, the ordinary burr scraper has remained largely unchanged. As a simple rod made from hardened steel held in a handle, its use largely depended on the user’s craftsmanship skills. Unfortunately, not everyone gets the hang of it, and many users have been frustrated by suboptimal results. This was remedied through the collaboration between Blackburn Tools and the Union Manufacturing Company. The Accu-Burr™ has been meticulously designed down to the last detail and presents itself as perhaps the most versatile burr scraper ever:

The centerpiece of the Accu-Burr™ scraper is a carbide rod with a diameter of 3/16" (4.76 mm) and three V-shaped grooves in the center of the rod. These grooves are precision-ground to pull a fine, medium, or coarse (5°, 10°, or 15°) burr simultaneously on both sides of any prepared edge. Since quality and precision are crucial for the function of this tool, only a premium carbide grade made in the USA by Lakeshore Carbide, a leading manufacturer of carbide tools, is considered.

Benefits of the Accu-Burr™ scraper:

- It creates a precise and repeatable burr simultaneously on both edges of a scraper blade.
- Works on any shape: straight, convex, even on concave edges with more than 3/32" (2.4 mm) curve radius.
- Works on scraper blades of any hardness (successfully tested on HSS with about RC 65!)
- Works on scraper blades of almost any thickness, from 0.010" (0.25 mm) to 0.100" (2.54 mm) thick.

Using the Accu-Burr™ scraper:
To draw a burr, hold the Accu-Burr™ scraper perpendicular to the prepared edge and center it as needed on one of the three grooves, with the deepest groove intended for the coarsest burr. Pull the tool down firmly and evenly along the edge with moderate force. A drop of oil makes this process even smoother. A burr is created that may be barely felt with the finger, but ultimately does what it is supposed to do. If no burr is felt, repeat the process with increasing pressure until a burr has formed along the entire length of the edge. The Accu-Burr™ can also be used as a conventional burr cutter by using the ungrooved part.

The design features fixed brass handles with a hexagonal cross-section that prevents the tool from rolling away when laid down. The ends each transition into a round cross-section, as does a small area near the carbide rod. Grooves provide additional grip here.
