Veritas DX60 One-Handed Plane
This is the black version of the new Veritas plane and part of their standard line.
The quality standards for this plane are set very high. The stainless steel fasteners for the various adjustments have been significantly refined. The contours of the knurled screws are designed elliptically, making them very pleasant to operate. The flap has been completely redesigned and now fits not only precisely in the plane body but also rests very well in the palm of the hand. Only one adjustment screw for the iron feed and for the lateral movement - originally developed by Norris - makes it very easy to set the plane accurately. The play in the adjustment is less than 1/4 turn. The adjustment mechanism is secured with a screw to the plane body, preventing it from accidentally falling out.
The mouth of the plane is adjusted by loosening the front stainless steel knurled screw, allowing the front part of the sole to move. An adjustment screw allows for repeatable mouth settings and prevents accidental contact with the cutting edge of the plane iron. The adjustable sole part is completely surrounded by the plane body and is only visible from the sole.
The plane body is 178 mm long and just under 45 mm wide. The plane bed has a 12° angle, resulting in a cutting angle of 37° when the 25° of the plane bevel is added. The flatness of the sole and iron meets the highest standards.
Note: This plane (DX60 Block Plane) is the standard version made of ductile iron, powder-coated black. It is not the NX60 one-handed plane.
In the new Veritas classification, the first letter indicates the material (Nickel, Bronze, Stainless Steel, Ductile Iron). The number refers to the model, and "X" stands for "excellent"!
