Rustin’s Danish Oil - Instructions for Use and Safety Information
Danish Oil is very easy to apply with a cloth or brush and highlights the natural beauty of the wood grain. The wood remains open-pored and receives a subtle sheen.
Danish Oil contains tung oil and other ingredients that penetrate deep into the wood and dry to a hard, durable, and water-repellent seal. This oil can be used on all woods, including oak, mahogany, pine, and all veneered surfaces from the initial treatment to the final coat. It leaves no glossy surface film, so nothing can chip or scratch off. Additionally, this oil can be used as a primer for subsequent paint coats. Danish Oil is excellent for all types of turned objects.
Shake well before use!

Processing
The raw wood must be clean, smooth, dry, and free from wax, dust, and dirt. Wax should be removed with turpentine substitute and a scrubbing pad, and then wiped away with a clean cloth while it is still wet. Existing paint must be thoroughly removed. The wood can be colored or stained before treatment with Danish Oil.
Number of coats
Apply generously to the surface with a clean cloth or a brush. Wipe off excess after a few minutes. For wood outdoors, the first application should be generous with a brush, and the excess should not be removed. Brush marks will disappear with the final coat by applying oil again with a scrubbing pad or rubbing in the direction of the grain, and then wiping off the excess. Paper kitchen towels are very suitable for this.
Drying time
Raw wood typically requires 3 coats. Wood in outdoor areas requires more. See below.
Waiting time between 2 coats
4 - 8 hours, depending on temperature and humidity.
Processing temperature
The previous coat must be completely dry!
Consumption according to manufacturer specifications
Ideal temperatures are between 15 and 25°, do not process at temperatures below 5° or when rain is expected on outdoor surfaces.
Repetition of treatment
Approx. 14 m² per liter for one coat, depending on the absorbency of the wood.
Tip: The smoother the wood, the lower the consumption.

Important notes for wood in outdoor areas
Regular oiling is necessary, the frequency depends on wear. Clean surfaces beforehand with turpentine substitute.
Storage stability
For wood in outdoor areas, the coating should be repeated at least once a year, and more often for surfaces exposed to the weather. Oak and softwoods (such as spruce and pine) are susceptible to discoloration caused by naturally occurring mold spores that are activated by moisture. Additional coatings are necessary to adequately protect these woods; for end grain, up to 6 coats are appropriate.
Safety Instructions
In the original, tightly sealed metal container under cool and dry conditions for several years.
Brush Cleaning
Flammable! Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Repeated contact may cause skin dryness and skin cracks. Vapors may cause drowsiness and dizziness. Use only in well-ventilated work environments. Keep out of reach of children. Keep away from ignition sources - do not smoke. Keep containers tightly closed. Contains cobalt octoate as a drying agent, methylethylketoxime as a skin preventer, hydrogen-treated heavy naphtha as a thinner. May cause allergic reactions.
Important: Rags soaked with Danish Oil can spontaneously ignite! Lay the rags flat to dry on a safe (fireproof) surface. This warning is often seen when it comes to linseed oil-containing products and is just as often not taken seriously because it sounds incredibly unbelievable to the layperson. I have personally experienced how an oily rag crumpled on a table spontaneously ignited. Take this warning seriously!
