Image sequence for rear clamp assembly

Charles built this workbench; at the time of this publication, it was not yet completely finished. He faced a hurdle - like many others - when assembling the rear vise. We then spoke together, and as a result, this illustrative series of images was created, for which I thank Charles very much. I hope this helps many who are currently having problems with this specific step.

It is rare for hickory wood, which is often used for axe handles, to have a fungus that destroys the cell structure of the wood. Unfortunately, this is not visible from the outside. So be careful when using your axe with a hickory handle for the first time! The handle breaks immediately! This fungal infestation is recognized by the spongy-looking structure of the break point, which is quite hard and abrupt and does not follow a fiber structure.

Wood part disassembled and metal housing, which is integrated into the movable part of the rear clamp.

The metal housing is inserted.

As can be seen very well here, the rear clamp is made of four pieces, arranged in such a way that the metal cannot be seen from below. This is not necessarily required, but Charles did not want to see the metal. For mounting on the bench itself, the metal housing is removed again.

The metal housing is pushed onto the flat guide and inserted only a few centimeters. This is the correct screwdriver position when screwing on the wooden part.

Now the wooden housing is being placed on. View from the back. Now you can tighten the screws from the back.

This is the point where most people have problems. If you pay attention to the above sequence, it will work! As above, slightly different perspective.

Now from the beginning. The procedure seems a bit cumbersome, but it is necessary to be able to screw in the screws.

One more note: If the underside of the rear clamp is also covered with wood, holes for fine adjustment should be provided!
