Instruction manual for SHINWA tilt level

Main Use and Features

In construction and civil engineering work, inclinations often need to be measured. This inclinometer is primarily used for tasks where the height, position, and inclination of a building are marked on the construction site using boards.

A large scale allows for easy reading. Inclinations from 2-90 degrees can be measured. One division on the degree scale corresponds to 2 degrees! Before use, ensure that the support surface and measuring surface are not dirty.

Designation of parts

Place the protractor against the base plate and side stop after you have set the desired miter. Illustration: 45° bevel angle, any desired angle is possible!

Ratio of inclination and hypotenuse

  1. Hold the slope level with the stop side against the surface whose slope you want to measure.
  2. Rotate the scale until the bubble is centered between the boundary lines.
  3. Now read the value on the scale, you have determined the slope.

Cleaning of the rotating scale

In Japan, the slope in civil engineering and building construction is specified as a ratio between a vertical line assigned the value of 1 and a variable horizontal distance. The slope in the drawing below is referred to as "2.0 slope."

If one wants to determine the length of the hypotenuse (N), one can read the value in the table on the slope level for the example of a "2.0 slope" shown in the image. If the value of the vertical is set to 1, the value for the hypotenuse N results in 2.236.

Safety Instructions

When you loosen the locking screw, you can pull out the rotating scale a little (in no case completely and with force) and possibly remove any ingress protection.
