Veritas offers high-quality replacement blades for planes from other manufacturers (such as Stanley, Record, Anant) in A2, O1, or PM-V11 steel. The backs of the blades are lapped flat to at least 0.013 mm (0.0005 inch). The surface roughness is at most 0.00013 mm (0.000005 inch) on average.
Veritas plane blades are 2.5 mm (0.1 inch) thick. That’s 25% more than the industry standard of 2.0 mm (0.08 inch). Thicker blades have a lower tendency to chatter. All blades are 178 mm (7 inch) long and have a bevel angle of 30°. They fit almost all planes of the specified sizes. Due to minor manufacturing differences over the last century, it may be necessary to file the tab at the end of the adjustment mechanism slightly on older planes to ensure it fits into the slot of the blade.
