For quick and precise marking of dovetail joints, a marking template is the best tool available.
These 51 × 51 mm (2 × 2 inch) templates have stops on both sides, allowing you to simply flip them to mark both sides of a dovetail. The templates are designed such that the entire stop is always in contact with the workpiece, even when marking the outermost dovetails right at the edge of the workpiece. The recess between the stop and the body of the template (see photo) ensures that the template always fits perfectly against the workpiece, even if there are protruding fibers from sawing at the edge. Made from anodized aluminum, the templates are lightweight, durable, and leave no marks on the workpiece.
