FLEXCUT
Flexcut began in 1992 with the development and production of an entirely new series of carving tools, designed to meet the needs of professional sculptors while also considering the requirements of hobby carvers. Until then, since the beginning of the industrial revolution, the design of carving tools had changed very little—unlike the needs of the users.
The name „Flexcut” is indicative of their approach: instead of rigid, thick, and heavy tools, the developers—sculptors themselves—experimented with light, flat, and slightly flexible tools that can be easily guided with one hand. Flexcut tools come with a high level of sharpness right from the factory, which especially delights hobby carvers who may not be very familiar with sharpening. But remember: that moment will come eventually, and you will have to deal with it.
Each of these carving knives has an ash wood handle and a carbon steel blade. This carbon steel maintains its sharpness for a long time and is easy to sharpen with common sharpening tools. Each blade is sharpened and finely honed at the factory and is ready for immediate use. We recommend a small Japanese combination sharpening stone for resharpening, which is available at a low price. Flexcut has its own sharpening system and recommends its SlipStrop strop with polishing compound.
BEAVERCRAFT
Since 2014, Beavercraft in Ukraine has been producing high-quality carving tools and accessories, including many tools for sharpening and honing edges.
Three things are given special emphasis:
- Quality
- Durability and reliability
- An attractive price
The blades of the knives are made from hardened carbon steel and are delivered sharp and ready for use.
The handles of the Beavercraft knives available from us are made of ash wood and treated with natural linseed oil. They are flatter in cross-section than is often usual, ensuring comfortable handling.
NAREX
These carving knives from Narex are consistently well-crafted and sharp. Many manufacturers have very different understandings of „sharpness,” and with some, we have to take a deep breath at this designation. But the Narex carving tools are truly sharp. The blade is polished, as can be clearly seen in reflections in the photos. Despite the initial sharpness: it never stays that way, and after a certain period, resharpening is necessary. With our Japanese water stones and a bit of practice, this becomes a small meditation in between. The hardness of the cutting steel is approximately 61 HRC. The handles, made of dark stained and matte lacquered beech, are slightly oval, preventing them from rolling away.
