Product information
These bench dogs are called „Parf Dogs” by Veritas. The name is derived from their developer, Peter Parfitt. These bench dogs allow you to utilize the grid of the Festool MFT 3 multifunction table to make repeatable precise cuts. They come in two sizes: the small ones are 10 mm high, the large ones are 70 mm. The part of the bench dog that sits in the hole of the table is 17 mm long, so the total length is 27 mm or 87 mm respectively. By using a pair of small bench dogs to position your workpiece and a pair of large bench dogs to bring a stop to the desired position on the workpiece, you can easily perform parallel or right-angled cuts.
Veritas collaborated with Peter Parfitt to improve the design of the bench dogs and make them more versatile. These bench dogs are made of stainless steel and have a diameter of 19.90 mm at the bottom, which perfectly fits the holes in the MFT 3. Both sizes of the bench dogs are prevented from falling through the holes by a flange that is 10 mm high and has a diameter of 25 mm. This flange provides the necessary stability and offers sufficient bearing surface. Additionally, each bench dog has a hole with an M8 thread at the bottom for fixing. You can screw in Festool clamping screws (not included), but you can also use any M8 star knob screw.
The two bench dogs are also useful in the construction of a variety of jigs. The small bench dog can be used not only as a low stop. You can also insert it from the back or bottom into a bore so that you can use the M8 thread as a mounting point. The diameter of the flange is chosen to be 25 mm, so that you can easily create matching bores with a 25 mm Forstner bit (you can find suitable models here). The upper part of the long bench dog has the same diameter above the flange as below – 19.90 mm. You can create a simple compass by drilling a 20 mm diameter hole at one end of a suitable board and attaching a pencil at the other end (for instance, using a matching hole). By attaching a router or an electric jigsaw to the board instead of the pencil, you can quickly and easily make arcs.
