For spiral groove cutters with a right-hand spiral, the chips are lifted and ejected during milling. When speed is of the essence, this cutter is the right choice because the chips are immediately flung away, keeping the groove clean and unclogged. The bottom of the groove will be very clean, while the upper edges of the groove may experience small breakouts since the spiral cutting edges cut upwards and, depending on the wood’s grain structure, can tear off small chips.
The spiral groove cutters from Sistemi Klein are made of solid carbide (VHM). We have them in stock with shank diameters of 6 mm, 8 mm, and 12 mm. All cutters are designed for right-hand (i.e., standard) machines.
Recommended Speeds: The spiral groove cutters are designed for a speed of up to 24,000 RPM. The recommended speed also depends on other factors such as the type of material, the depth of cut in one pass, the quality of the machine, and particularly the precision of the holder. We recommend starting at 18,000 RPM and then gradually adjusting to the appropriate speed.
