With these straight and stable aluminum tracks, you can create your own shooting board. The guide rails are compatible with the Veritas shooting plane and also with the shooting sander from the same manufacturer. The stainless steel stop on the outside is adjustable, allowing the running surface width to be set between 52 mm (2-1/32 inch) and 57 mm (2-1/4 inch). This means that the guide rails can be used for all planes whose running surface falls within this range. Stop screws prevent the stop from slipping during planing.
The inner stop is 4.4 mm (11/64 inch) high. Strips of PE-UHMW are attached to the bottom of the rails, allowing the plane to glide smoothly (PE-UHMW is the „ultra-high-molecular-weight” version of polyethylene. It has a very low friction resistance and is also very wear-resistant). The necessary screws to attach the guide rail to the shooting board are included in the delivery.
The shorter of the two rails is 406 mm (16 inch) long and provides enough length for most end grain work. The longer rail (610 mm, 24 inch) is useful for jointing or if you want to build a double-sided miter box.
