With some of these clamping elements, you can clamp many connections simultaneously without the weight and space requirements of conventional clamps. The movable clamp holds the workpiece securely with a lever motion. The clamping force of the clamp increases the more you tighten the spindle of the clamp. The surface of the workpiece is protected by the jaw, which is rotatably mounted on the U-shaped clamping bracket. When clamping, it is best to first press the jaw against the workpiece with your thumb and forefinger while tightening the spindle with the other hand.
Once the clamping element has built up a little pressure, it remains fixed to the workpiece even if you loosen the spindle. A short tap on the square area of the jaw in the direction of the spindle releases the clamping.
These clamping elements have been manufactured unchanged for more than 25 years by Dubuque Tool Works in Iowa, USA. They are made of lightweight cast aluminum. The clamping bracket (U-shaped component that holds the jaw) is made of steel. The spindle has a 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) trapezoidal thread and a wing handle, which makes it easy to turn.
In the case of the angle clamp, the clamp is vertically oriented. The angle clamp is 229 mm (9 inches) long without the spindle and comes with a standard-sized clamping bracket (distance between legs 41 mm). It is suitable for workpieces from 19 mm to 20.5 mm (3/4 inch to 13/16 inch). With the standard-sized clamping bracket, you can also clamp workpieces that are slightly thinner than 19 mm. However, the clamp is then at an unfavorable angle, which may cause the workpiece to slip. This can usually be prevented by placing a piece of sandpaper between the jaw and the wood. Clamping brackets in other sizes for thicker workpieces are available separately.
